Yesterday was a historic day for me because I finally got interviewed by a news reporter. I kind of messed up but I’m still happy I got interviewed.
I believe Baca is referencing immigrants to prisoners and the tone of the poem is upsetting

Depending on ourselves is very important because only we can know and control what we will do with ourselves. Only we can care for ourselves more than anyone else. In life, we have to learn to do what makes us happy and not care about anyone else's thoughts.
